🍎 Apple Week at MCS! 🍎
What a week! Students harvested apples from our very own school orchard and turned them into delicious foods and creative crafts. On Friday, everyone had a chance to help press apples into cider—with a special assist from Superintendent Wright!
A huge thank you to the many families and local orchards who donated apples to make this week such a success. Our students had a blast learning, tasting, and creating together. ❤️

Heavy harvest! As third graders they planted watermelons seeds. Today as fourth graders they harvested huge watermelons ready to eat! The biggest melon took teamwork to carry and nearly broke the scale!

Monarch Monday! Students are learning about insects and tagging monarchs for #MonarchWatch.

From #SeedsToSnacks our students are using the vegetables they planted in the spring! As second graders they planted the tomatoes. Now as third graders they harvested and made salsa! Yum!

Off to a science start! Fifth graders tested water quality to check the alkaline/acidity and second graders learned about microbes by making pickles!

First day fun was happening all day long! First bus ride! First recess with friends! #FirstDayHike and more!

MCS was honored to host the Seeds of Knowledge Teacher-Led Agricultural Literacy Workshop! Thank you to the Wisconsin Ag in the Classroom team and all the amazing attendees. We enjoyed sharing our project-based outdoor learning spaces!

Taking his art all the way to the state fair!
Iann L., a future 5th grader at Merrimac Community School, has a clay face mug on display at the Wisconsin State Fair in Milwaukee. Iann really feels his art advanced from the county fair to the state level because instead of just saying, "here is my mug," he shared all he learned from his art teacher, Mrs. Fischer, about the history behind face mugs.
In another fun turn of events, Iann and his family ran into Mrs. Fischer at the Fair!
Congratulations Iann! Thank your for your enthusiasm for art and the artistic process, and for appreciating Mrs. Fischer's valued role in your success!

🌳✨ Now Open: Hammock Hill at MCS! ✨🌳
We're thrilled to unveil Hammock Hill, our brand-new outdoor learning space at MCS! Today, students got to kick back, relax, and hang around with a good book — literally! 📚💚
This peaceful spot is already a hit, offering a calm, cozy place for reading, reflection, and connecting with nature. Big smiles, swinging hammocks, and happy hearts all around! ☀️🌿
Thank you to the many parents, grandparents and community members who sponsored a hammock! We are very appreciative of your generosity. Thanks also to the families and staff who helped to clear the brush from under the pines. This special area will be enjoyed for years to come!
Here’s to more learning adventures under the sky! 🌈 #HammockHill #OutdoorLearning #MCSProud #ReadingRocks

Community service in action! Students filled the village planters along Highway 78 with colorful flowers where they'll bloom all summer!
A big thank you to Buttermilk Barn for donating the plants to our project!

Despite a few raindrops, we hit the West Bluff trails at Devil's Lake today! Up and down the trail, students took in the geology and lovely views!
A big thank you to @WisConservation for awarding us a GoOutside grant for this trip!

MCS 4K students and families had an amazing day at the ferry. Mr. Adam provided all the children with a scoop of ice cream and they enjoyed riding the ferry. The walk back up the hill to school was no match for these energetic 4K students!

Everyday is #WISchoolGardenDay at Merrimac! Students have been busy planting seeds and bulbs, transplanting seedlings grown in class, and watering the new sprouts!

Suddenly salad! Harvest time for the hydroponically grown lettuce and spinach in the #towergarden. Fifth graders used science to whip up some vinaigrette to top it off!

Hands wet and feet muddy! Releasing the rainbow trout is an exciting field trip that completes our five month project! Everyone released a trout and learned about the fresh water ecosystem. A big thank you to @WIDNR for their support of #TroutInTheClassroom again this year!

Students are planning their summer reading after a visit from the librarians at the Ruth Culver Community Library and George Culver Community Library!
